Athens Video | Frequently Asked Questions and AnswersDo you film a lot of weddings? Not anymore. We used to, and it is a service we still offer. With weddings, clients are generally interested in a great price, and are willing to sacrifice quality. We are not willing to sacrifice quality, and we can't offer a lower price. So we don't get that many bookings anymore. If you are interested in better quality and service, then you may want to look into our services.
Do you rent cameras?No.
Can you convert a movie I bought to DVD that is not currently available on DVD?Yes, with permission form the copyright owner.
Do you convert 8 mm films? Not anymore.
Can we make copies of our DVDs or do you have to make copies? If we create a video for you, we let you make your copies if you wish. There is no copyright protection on the discs themselves.
What does your logo mean? How long have you been around?Almost 30 years now. After starting in 1983 as Video Data Services under the direction of Mike Lyle, it has taken many forms during it's growth. Later, Mike sold the business and the name changed to Athens Video Services, Then in 2005, it incorporated as Athens Video, Inc. Like all businesses, it has changed leadership and employees over the years and thus cannot be considered a "one man video company" as many other video companies operate.
Can you repair VHS tapes?Usually, yes. We do't repair 8mm or miniDV tapes.
Do you rent movies?Uh, no.
Do you take credit cards? We take cash, check, money order, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and PayPal.
Do you give discounts to non-profit organizations? We do not generally, unless the project has a special purpose that we feel the need to assist with. We will often trade out services in exchange for advertising or Sponsorship. It is generally a misconception that companies can simply write off non-profit work and get a tax break. And because we are a business with overhead and employees to pay, we are not in a position to heavily discount the work we do.
